Dexter Sequel Series, Resurrection, Revealed With Michael C. Hall Returning | SDCC 2024

Showtime isn't easing up on the Dexter franchise anytime soon.

The network made two big surprise announcements at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, revealing a brand-new Dexter series, Dexter: Resurrection, which will see Michael C. Hall as the titular killer in the present day. The network also revealed that Hall will be returning for the previously announced origin series Dexter: Original Sin as the voice of young Dexter.

Hall, who's also an executive producer on the show, surprised the Comic-Con crowd with the announcement today, joined on stage by executive producer and showrunner Clyde Phillips. The two appeared at the panel for Dexter: Original Sin, which is currently in production.

"We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime's most successful series ever,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, in a statement. “While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”

Dexter: Original Sin was announced back in February 2023 (then called Dexter: Origins) as Paramount doubled down on franchises. We don't know too much about it just yet, except the fact that it'll be set in the '90s.

Original Sin and Resurrection will be the second and third spinoffs in the Dexter franchise. The original series premiered in 2006 and ran for eight seasons, while Dexter: New Blood premiered in 2021.

Dexter: Original Sin is set to debut in December 2024, and Resurrection is set for sometime in Summer 2025. For everything announced at San Diego Comic-Con so far, check out our roundup.
